lake, dam
Lakes Nove Mlyny were created in 1980s to prevent floods. Several protest had been held against building of these lakes. Today, there are still several NGOs fighting against the lakes and requesting renovation to the previous state. The main reason for this is that a nature reserve almost surrounds the lakes and there are several very rare plants. The lakes changed the climate and humidity and now these plants are suffering.
On the contrary, surrounding areas are no more flooded every year and there are not so many mosquitos as it used to be. Also, the lakes are attractive for recreation and combined with plenty of wine cellars in the region, they bring a lot of tourists and money to the region.
