Ruins of Arxavia (or Strassburg) austrian citadel (from Latin Arx-a-via = citadel from the road), is only partially preserved: the fortress ditches, ground wave and traces of walls.
Built between 1718-1722 by the Austrians in a place called '' Malu Podului 'after the peace of Passarowitz in 1718, when Oltenia province becomes an Austrian province.
It was built by order of Count Steinville, architect engineer Friedrich Schwantz.
Immediately after the Peace of Belgrade in 1739, Arxavia citadel was destroyed to the ground by the Turks, today only keeping the ditch/moat and the wave of earth surrounding the settlement.
