The two and three story, Art Deco, JM Schaefer Building was constructed in 1930 by successful Dearborn innkeeper and entrepreneur, John H Schaefer. Designed by architect Louis Kamper, the 70,869 sq. ft. building features 32,000 sq. ft. of ground level retail space with offices above. The original retail tenants included an 11,000 sq. ft. SS Kresges.

Over the years, the building housed other stores including, Woolworth's, Winkelman's, Kinsel Drugs and Jo Ann Fabrics. It was extensively renovated in the 1990s and is now home to a number of tenants including,
