The new 38,700sf building was designed by Burton Behrendt Smith Architects in 2005 at a cost of approximately $17.8 million. Included in the facility is a children’s library, a community room with seating for 200, a quiet study space and a cafe. Extensive custom woodwork was created by the Hale Manufacturing Co with Agati 'DePaul' series furniture chosen to complement the design. A 2019 renovation was designed by MDA Design Group which added furniture by Herman Miller and Knoll.

The previous building was located where current parking field is. Former location of Adams Art Store. The library was built on a land plot formerly owned by Horatio Gates Onderdonk who had his home nearby.
