A & F Market

USA / New York / Plandome Heights /
 store / shop, interesting place

The pressed-tin ceilings and walls, burnished wood shelving and sawdust-strewn meat locker date back to the butcher shop of the original tenant, Nagele's Fine Food, Wines and Liquors, and remained unchanged when it was taken over in 1957 by Andy and Flo Donaldson who renamed it A & F Market. Nagele's also had a store across the street which is no longer extant. The store's interior was sourced from the A.C. Wicke Manufacturing Company of 406-412 East 102nd Street - Harlem Market in Manhattan.

In 2004, Ken Aguilar bought the store from the Donaldson's nephew, Russell Carson, and he has assiduously maintained its vintage look, as well as its commitment to prime meat and customer service.
