Motorway service station.
Opened in 1966 by H.M. The Queen on the then M4 crossing the River Severn. When the M4 was diverted over the new bridge the services experienced a decline in traffic and it was expected that the site would close. In preparation for this, the main building which offered splendid views of the bridge and the River Severn, was closed and sold off to become offices for a media company. Meanwhile, the services were moved to the former petrol station kiosk in preparation for closure of the entire site. In the event however, custom remained steady, with many motorists detouring from the M4 specifically to use the services.

There is a viewing point to the west of the site which overlooks the river and bridge.

  • Yes and no, The old services with the great view is out of bounds, its now a company building. A much smaller services was built nearby, but it isnt the same as the building from my childhod. :(
  • Agreed. The old Aust services used to be a lovely place to stop and just look at the view. The new services is a rather grim place, and one which most people prefer to avoid if possible.
