Alder Springs Basin

USA / Oregon / Culver /
 valley, spring, outcrop (rocks)

In this basin several large springs come to the surface, and flow into Whychus Creek (previously called Squaw Creek). Permeable layers of the Deschutes Formation host the aquifer which supplies the springs. The hillsides surrounding the basin include layers of water-laid sediment, volcanic-derived sediment, volcanic ash, and welded tuff.

A three-mile trail leads from a parking area to Alder springs. The trail continues another 2 miles to the confluence of Whychus Creek and the Deschutes River. The land surrounding the basin burned in a wildfire in 2011, but some of the streamside trees were spared.
