Built in 1998 as the "Texas Playhouse & Art Museum" (mostly a live theater with a small gallery), this theater was closed down in 2012 by the WISD and in May 2014 it was gutted in order to prepare it for being used as a restaurant. Construction on Twisted Root began in April 2015, with the restaurant opening in late September of that year.
