Built in 1911 when Central School was no longer large enough to accomodate the growing population of students at that time. The decison of whether to solve the need for more school space by either expanding Central School or by building a new school was settled in favor of building Washington School, and this location was chosen so that children from the south side of town would not need to cross the railroad tracks. The school was demolished in 1952 and the present school building was built on the same site.
