school, African American Civil Rights Movement, NRHP - National Register of Historic Places, high school
Historic African American high school building constructed in 1953. In its later years of operation, the building functioned as a middle school before closing in the 1980s. There are a pair of small one-story buildings behind the school that housed classrooms; these date to 1969. The complex is listed on the National Register of Historic Places for its important role in the fight for the desegregation of public schools in Virginia.
