The bay takes its name from the local Bradford family. Capt. William Polk, whose "fine brick home" was located on or near Bradfords Neck, possibly operated his salt works on the shores of Bradford Bay. Both house and salt works were burned by Benedict Arnold during the Revolutionary War.
