formerly St Vincent Hospital, later the headquarters for the Metropolitan Water District

The Daughters of Charity bought six acres at the corner of Sunset and Beaudry for $10,000 and created the St Vincent Hospital in 1884. The hospital was damaged by fire in 1927, and the sisters moved to the corner of Third and Alvarado Streets.

The current building was designed by William Pereira, one of only three architects featured on the cover of Time magazine, as the headquarters for the Metropolitan Water District with the lowrise portion completed in 1963. The highrise was started in 1971. The MWD left the building in 1993 and sold off this complex in 1994. After years of neglect the building was redeveloped with the highrise converted into luxury apartments, The Elysian. The remainder of the property will have a mixed-use complex built on it:
