Metropolis is a mixed use approved complex of apartment towers, a hotel and retail. One block north of L.A. Live, the development site is bounded by the 110 Freeway, James M. Wood Boulevard and Eighth and Francisco streets. It was first proposed in 1991 as an all-office and retail development, but when the downtown Los Angeles office market stagnated, it was postponed. It was proposed again in 2008, but cancelled due tot he economic collapse. It was finally built by the Chinese firm Greenland in 2016.
