The unique architecture and pagoda roof are indicative of Maryknoll's work in the Orient. Tower was damaged in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, the reconstructed tower is shorter.
It now serves as a retirement home for Catholic missionaries. In ages past, it also housed seminary students who attended the now destroyed St. Joseph Seminary down the hill which was heavily damaged by the 1987 Loma Prieta Quake.
