Very old area of Dibrugarh. It is said, during Ahom period, one peasant named Chao Kya Ting came to this place and started his peasantry here. He constructed his house and invited some of his relatives and friends to settle here permanently. As he was the first man to come here, this place was named after his name Chao Kya Ting. The present name Chowkidingi has been derived from that Ahom name. Later on his fellow men left this place as the area was repeatedly inundated by flood water of Dibru river, and shifted themselves in some other place. But the name remained unchanged.
