  • Wednesday, February 16, 2011, NORTH Somerset Council has awarded exclusive rights to a Weston-super-Mare businessman to redevelop the Tropicana but will not accept his current proposals. The local authority granted the exclusive rights yesterday (mon) to the Nightingale Group, owned by Richard Nightingale. It follows rival developer Havard Tisdale’s unexpected withdrawal from the tender process last month only 13 days after submitting its final designs. It appears the main issue regarding Mr Nightingale’s multi million pound scheme is parking at the site, which does not feature at the current dilapidated building.
  • WEDNESDAY 11TH JAN, I HAVE JUST READ THE FRONT PAGE OF THE MIDWEEK, I SEE THAT THE COUNCILORS ARE DETERMIND TO TAKE THE TROPICANA TO THE GROUND COME HELL OR HIGH TIDE.... I HAVE ONLY LIVED IN WESTON FOR 1 YEAR, I HAVE TRAVELED TO WESTON ON DAY OUTS AND WEEK HOLIDAY BREAKS, MY HUSBAND HAS SPENT CHILD HOOD HOLIDAYS HERE WITH HIS MUM ,DAD, SISTERS HE REMEMBERS HAPPY DAYS IN THE TROPICANA SWIMMING PLAYING IN TEH WATER, MANY FAMILIES I HAVE TALKED TO HAVE ALSO HAD SUCH LOVLEY HOLIDAYS AND VISITED TROPICANA, THE BUILDING TO ME IS A LOVELY PLACE I LOVE TO WALK PAST IT, IT COULD BE BOUGHT UP TO PRESENT DAY TO FIT IN WITH THE REST OF THE SEA FRONT, I FEEL THE COUNCILORS WHO ARE VOTING AGAINST THE TROP REOPENING NEEDS T ASK THEMSELVES **WHY ** ARE WE DEPRIVING THE PEOPLE OF WESTON THIS LOVELY BUILDING TO REOPEN AS A POOL AND PERHAPS A CAF/WITH A FE W OTHER SHOPS /GIFT SHOP, COME ON COUNCIL HAVE A CHANG OF HART. WITHT HE NEW PIER AND SITTING AREA'S THEN THIS NEW HOTEL/IZZA PLACE THE TROPICANA WOULD BE AN ASSET TO WESTON NOT A FLOP.... I'D CERTAINLY GO THERE ANDSO WOULD MY CHILDREN /GRANDACHILDREN, I DO HOPE YOU READ THIS, THE FRONTAGE IS SUCH A BEAUTIFULL LOOKING PLACE. REGARDS MRS G SANDFORD...

  • As one of the last couples to use the Tropicana on it's last day of opening, my husband and I are so disappointed at the attitude of our elected members who appear to be hidebound in demolishing this wonderful structure which has given so many people so much pleasure over many years - despite the feeling of the populace whom they are supposed to represent!!! The building at this stage only required some cosmetic attention to continually be of service to those who enjoyed it. It would appear, however, that these elected members are only too willing to spend vast amounts of money on providing superior accomodation to themselves and officials as well as allowing "hidious" developments of hotels and restaurants (as if we don't have enough already!) along the sea front area. Wake up you Councillors and realise that you are supposed to represent the people - not your own interests! We put you there - we can remove you!
  • the weston tropicana pool can be saved with no problem what the n.e.s council should remember how can in a thridworld country like turkey which has so many waterparks and throughout the world in so many other countrys have waterparks why can we do the same here throughout the uk and weston-super-mare a new efficient look waterpark can be built on the tropicana site with an new large bandstand the new bandstand built onto the new waterpark tropicana can be used as an outdoor cinema this can be done by using an outdoor film projector and project it onto the wall or glass on the bandstand this can be used as an outdoor theatre this will make an big improvement with a big hit for weston this is done throughout turkey with outdoor cinemas this has been done at keynsham music festival on the bandstand the first week of july with a big hit this can be done throuhout the uk and weston-super-mare tropicana pool on behalf of mr derek mead and mr kerry michael this will make a big improvement to weston and this can be put forward to happen on behalf of the people of weston-super-mare to have their say on this and all vistors who vist weston to have their say on this more new waterparks can be built throughout the uk and weston new holiday complexs can be built right along the bristol channel and the river severn and wales this can be done same as bristol docks this will make a real improvement all local pier owners can be given the chances to take over other old piers in their seaside towns two piers are better then one two better then two this can be done free of charge this will help save all local councils throughout the uk money all local pier owners can take over all old seaside buildings like the weston tropicana pool for new developement this will make a real improvement and save so many seaside buildings like the weston tropicana pool from demolishing this can be put forward on behalf of grand pier new owner mr kerry michael and former pier owner mr rod brenner to put this forward to happen with all local mps and all local pier owners throughout the uk to happen it is very important that the weston tropicana pool is saved would all of our grand parents would like to see the weston tropicana pool pulled down how would they feel about this the tropicana pool bring so many hay day songs like sing a songsing out loud. sang by the carpenters and sir cliff richard summer holiday and the song last summer started with a kiss. which was sang by a band which was from the seventies or sixties and there are so many other hayday songs which bring so many memories to the weston tropicana by all readers to share out this can be shared out throughout the uk in so many other seaside communities together we can all do this more new waterparks are needed and more new bandstands can be built like in kelvingrove park and highfield avenue park hanam bristol and so many other parks throughout the uk more new piers can be built like westward ho north devon and throughout the uk this can be done the same as when the severn bridge was built the people of weston can get the BBC centre to join to save the weston tropicana pool as so many famous people has used it the queen can be ask to help to save the weston tropicana pool and help to have so many more new waterparks built throughout the uk on behalf of mr derek mead and mr kerry michael and mr rod brenner and all local mps and the people of weston-super-mare and everyone throughout the uk to join to make this happen in their local communities to happen all large giants like tescos can join to save the weston tropicana pool and fairtrade and the co-operative company and all local business outlets can join to save the weston tropicana pool and this can be done throughout the uk in every communties can make this happen to have in their local communtie this will help every local communtie throughout the uk to be awarded a O.B.E and the blue and green flag award together we can all make this happen l hope everyone who read this letter can take this on to make this happen and to share this letter with everyone with many thanks and a big thankyou date 1/6/12 time 20:20pm
