Kharberd (Խարբերդ - Harput - Elazig) Province, Mamuret-ül Aziz Province. One of the administrative units of the Ottoman Empire, Tadım, where the castle was named Dadima in Greek in the work of Georgios of Cyprus in 600, is referred to as Tadem in Armenian sources. Tadım Castle located nearby is Datemaberd (berd armenian castle) in Armenian sources. Datem or Tadem is located in the Sophène (Սոֆէնէ Սոֆինի Սոֆինէ, Ծովք, Turkish Gölcük) and Anzitene (Անզիդինի, Անազէթէ, Հանազէթի, Hanjit, Handzit, Անձիտ, Հանձիթ, հանձին, յանձին) region of the Minor Armenia principalities in Antiquity. Armenian history corresponds to the Fourth Hayk (Մեծ Հայքի Չորրորդ Հայք) or Dzopk province.
When King Drtad died in 330, Armenia was shared between the Roman and Persian Sassanids in 387. The lands sometimes changed hands between the Persian-Sassanids and sometimes between the Roman Empires. Since the Romans, who wanted to keep the region under control, did not want to settle here, the Empire established Roman Armenia by settling the Armenians who were immigrated to Mesopotamia by the Arabs in 384. Later, one of the commanders of the Romanian Diogenes army, the Armenian Lord Satrap Philarète Brachamios from the Marash born Varajnuni dinastic settled here and gave it to rule.
The name Datem reminds us of 'datastan', 'the place where they used to be', the name 'Da tama', which is widely used in Persia. "Datima", on the other hand, is its Greekized form since it is affiliated with the Roman Authority. He writes that it is also called Սբածածին. Tadem Village is connected to the central district of Elazig Province and is an Armenian settlement in the south of the city and 15 km from the center; It appears as Elazig Center, Yaliniz Village, Venk hamlet, Tadım Monastery Church in the cadastral records. Tohumlu Village (Kumberiç, Kumbariç - Քումպարիշ, Քումպարիչ) in the west, Kuyulu (Huylu - Խույլու) in the east, Ballıca (Balace - Պալաճէ) in the south, Tepeköy (Venk hamlet) in the north, Yalnız (Yalımöz - Եալըմէօզ), Sarı Yakup (Սարը Եաղուպ) in the northeast. villages are located. Pre-1915 population in the village 1896 Armenians (130 Protestants, 40 Catholics), 38 Turks. While the village was heavily hit by the 1895 Hamidiye Regiment's slaughter and plunder with the encouragement of the Ottoman Empire, it became Hacı Bego and his son Hafez in the 1915 massacres, which ended the presence of the Armenians there. Immigrants brought from Alashgert and Kurds from Van settled in the places vacated by them.
