The Grade II Listed tomb of Reverend John Newton who was curate-in-charge of SS Peter and Paul Church, Olney in 1764. It was here that he collaborated with William Cowper on the Olney poems printed in 1779, amongst them Amazing Grace.
He died in 1807, shortly after the Abolition Act came into law.
The chest tomb dates from 1893 when John newton and his wife were reburied in Olney.
