Nortap, the name is a Karbi words which means the rear team consisting of aged and experienced in traditional ret kenong (ploughing of jhoom). The king of Nortap was wise, had ample knowledge and so given the name Nortap by Ason Dumura Recho ( The King of Dumura) under whom he was ruling. The nortap recho was assisted by the Rongtim Bangthe (Bangthe of the Rongtharve village which now become Amguri village). In the present days there are four villages namely Amguri, Gorong, Nortap No.1 and Nortap No. 2. The royal family lives in Nortap No.2 near a place called Borbali. A faction of the family lives in Gorong which now bifercated. The new village name is Bengpong Rong ( Rong bengpong)
