Washington Elementary School is the oldest elementary school in Downtown San Diego. The original building, that educated and raised the children of Little Italy, back in the 50′s and 60′s, was a beautiful piece of architecture. Unfortunately in the late 1970′s, the San Diego School District had concern that the building was not earthquake safe; so the building was demolished and the current school building was erected.

The new building was constructed in the 1980’s and includes the surrounding parks and recreation areas shared with the community. Children at Washington currently receive instruction in the core subject areas as well as; music, chorus, art, dance, Spanish, or Italian. While we are proud of our little school and we mean to make it better.

Through the generous donations from the Little Italy Association, the Italian Embassy, the Washington Elementary Foundation our P.T.O. and the STEAM magnet grant we are proud to offer a stellar curriculum unrivaled in San Diego.
