Trench across the Hayward Fault (Fremont, California)

In 2006, the USGS excavated a trench here across the Hayward Fault.
This was a research and education project.
The fault line was clearly visible as a shear line from ground level to the bottom of the trench, ~14 ft deep.

The trench was filled and covered after a few months due to lack of funding and lack of interest.
