Bourlamaque Lake is located in northwestern Quebec in the Southeast of the Abitibi region. This lake located southeast of the city of Val-d'Or is an effluent to the North, the Bourlamarque river, the river system of the Harricana river joins the sea at bay Hannah southeast of James Bay in Ontario. The name of this lake comes from François-Charles Bourlamaque, born in Paris (1716-1764). On his appointment as colonial infantry colonel in Canada, in March 1756 he became the third officer in importance in America after Lieutenant General Louis-Joseph de Montcalm, the Marquis de Saint-Veran (1712-1759) and François-Gaston Marshal Duke de Lévis (1719-1787). He distinguished himself in the battles of Oswego (NY) from 10 to 14 August 1756, Carillon (NY) July 8, 1758 and Sainte-Foy (QC) April 28, 1760. After the Conquest (1760), he was made Commander of the Order of St. Louis and accepted a mission to Malta in 1761. He wrote a memoir about Canada, in 1762, before becoming governor of Guadeloupe, where he died two years later at the age of 48 years only.
