Autopolis opened in 1990, as a high-standard track with well-appointed facilities. Real-estate developer and investment banker Tomonori Tsurumaki was the backer of the project.
Ownership has changed owners several times, due to financial difficulties, possibly because of its remote location.
It still operates to this day, holding Super GT, D1GP, Formula 3, All-Japan Road Race Championship, and Formula Nippon Races.
