USA / New Jersey / Hoboken / New York City, New York / Charlton Street, 33-39
townhouses, Federal style (architecture), 1820s construction

Four 3-story Federal-style residential buildings completed together in the 1820s. They are clad in orange brick above stone basements, each three bays wide. They all have low stoops with wrought-iron railings leading up to the doorways. Those at Nos. 33 & 35 are flanked by Ionic columns supporting transom bars. The doorways at the western two houses are simpler.

Each building has full-length parlor floor windows, except for No. 33, which has exterior shutters bordering all its windows. The houses each have a simple dentiled roof cornice with plain fascia board, except No. 37, whose original cornice has been removed and replaced with a smaller and somewhat higher one. There is a small metal fire escape on No. 39.
