telecommunication, tropospheric scatter station, closed
Built to provide commercial telecommunication service from the mainland to oil and gas fields in the North Sea, the Scousburgh Hill site was fitted with four transmitters that operated until 1997. The southbound shot linked the site to the BT site at Mormond Hill, the southeast shot connected to platforms in the Beryl oil field, the east shot connected the Frigg gas field through its 2004 closure and the northeast shots linked the Brent and Thistle oil fields.
Following the shutdown of the tropo links in 1997 the site was largely abandoned and was demolished in 2017.
