Bullwaddy Conservation Reserve

Australia / Northern Territory / Ngukurr /
 nature reserve  Add category

Arnold NT 0852

The area supports large fragmented stands of Bullwaddy (Macropteranthes kekwickii) and Lancewood (Acacia shirleyi). Both trees form impregnable thickets, nothing like open savannah usually associated with the north.
Seven broad community types of vegetation were mapped according to topography, soil type, dominant species and structure:
Bullwaddy/lancewood thickets
Marginal mixed woodland
Dense bullwaddy/lancewood forest
High cover woodland
Open bullwaddy/lancewood forest
Drainage areas
Corymbia dichromophloia woodlands

There are two Aboriginal groups associated with the area surrounding Bullwaddy
Conservation Reserve. The Alawa people and The Jingili people.

The Reserve’s most significant natural values lie in the flora and associated fauna.
Of particular interest is furthering the Parks and Wildlife Commission’s knowledge of
the ecology of bullwaddy (M. kekwickii).
