It was one of the last Viscounts built at Brooklands. First flown from Brooklands in June 1958, & delivered to BEA on 23rd June 1958, ‘IM served with various carriers until 1990 when it was offered to the Museum by British Air Ferries.
It was officially named ‘Viscount Stephen Piercey’ on 25th August 1984 after the late Stephen Piercey, an accomplished aviation photographer & founder of ‘Propliner’ magazine. Stephen was tragically killed aged 26 at the 1984 Hannover Air Show.
On 11th Januaray 1988, a Shorts 330 accidentally taxied into ‘IM at Southend badly damaging both aircraft.
Museum Volunteers and the ‘Friends of Viscount Stephen Piercey’ look after ‘IM today.
