remnants of skin of this extinct Pleistocene animal were found in 1895. A giant form of ground sloth it lived here along with dwarf ancestors of the horse and Smilodon, the saber-toothed cat. Remains were dated at recent at 5,000 B.C.E. or a thousand years AFTER humans were known to be here.
