King‘s Square (Kitzingen)

Germany / Bayern / Kitzingen / Königsplatz

This patch of green appears fairly young. The sandstone obelisk was erected in honor of King Ludwig II, and was inaugurated in 1883, 15 years after the king’s mysterious death. Originally there was a bust of the king at about half height but a drunken student, trying to climb the monument, slipped and broke the bust. There is a sandstone well on the northeast side, one of many supplying the early city with water. www.kitzingen.info/fileadmin/files_kultur_tourismus/tou...
