archaeological site, ancient ruins
The archaeological site of Kom el-ʿAbd. The main complex in the northwestern part of the site dates to the reign of Amenhotpe III in Dynasty 18, c. 1360 BC. The complex appears to have included a royal pavilion used for outings and various residential and service building. The remains to the southeast of the main complex appear to be from a later period. The ruins are visible on the surface. Excavated by O. H. Meyers in 1936-1937 and discussed by B. J. Kemp, "A Building of Amenophis III at Kôm el-'Abd," The Journal of Egyptian Archaeology, Vol. 63. (1977), pp. 71-82.
