This motte and bailey is of typical Norman design, but may not actually be Norman at all. It is widely believed that this fort complex was built by the native Irish, mimicking the Norman style of fortifications of that time. A stunning view is to be had from the top of the largest mound. The site sits directly beside what was once part of the Royal Route of Tara to the Friary at Bonamargy, and Castle at Dunseverick, on the North coast of Ireland.
