Charlestown Retirement Community (formerly Saint Charles College)

Presently Charlestown retirement community, it was a part of Saint Mary’s Seminary and
University and earlier was Saint Charles College. The Saint Charles school complex,
with its large Renaissance Revival Chapel, was established on Maiden Choice Lane after
an earlier college and minor seminary in Howard County had burned. The chapel decorated in mosaic art framed in faience, terra cotta, and colored marble was constructed in 1925. Designed by architectural firm of Murphy and Olmstead, Washington. The ministration building was designed by Charles Ulrich and finished by Ellicott and
Emmart.
