Today's 4-star castle hotel Post was built by a Tyrolean lord in the early 15th century. About 150 years later the house was ennobled to "Sprengenstein Castle" and a post office set up within its walls. It is this very post station in Imst, then Europe's metropolis of bird-trade, that the Austrian composer Carl Zeller was referring to in his operetta "The Bird Seller" from 1891, which should gain worldwide fame with the song "Ich bin die Christl von der Post".
Gretl and Heinz Grissemann took over the already famous establishment from the state of Tyrol in 1936. Since 2001, Thomas and Birgit Raggl-Pfeifer lead the totally refurbished property in the Ötztal Alps, whose historical appearance was preserved despite extensive interior and exterior renovations.
