An early-to-middle Bronze-Age site surrounded by a quadrangular enclosure some 550 by 450 m in extent and some 10 m in height. The modern name means Safīnat Nūḥ means "Noah's Ark" (it is also known as the Tell as-Safīn, "Hill of the Ark"). It is identified as the site of "Old Qadesh" (qdš tȝ jsy) of the Egyptian narratives describing the Battle of Qadesh in 1275 or 1274 BC. If so, the already abandoned settlement would have served as the camp of the Hittite king Muwattalli II on the eve of the battle.
