pub / public house, Grade II Listed (UK)

Devereaux Court takes its name from Robert Devereaux, Earl of Essex and a famous parliamentary general in the Civil War. The original site builder here in the 1670s was Dr Nicholas Barbon, son of "Praise-God Barebones". The attractive Grade II-listed pub was built in 1844; part of the site used to be the Grecian Coffee House frequented by the likes of Addison and Steele.
