Please rectify: Wellesley had not landed at Porto Novo but in Lavos, at southward of Figueira da Foz. Actualy, at Porto Novo (the english texts from that time call it erroneously "Maceira", but this last place is at east from Porto Novo) had landed, in the following order, the General Spencer's corps (coming from Andalucia, Spain), the General Sir Harry Burrard (second in command of this army, coming from England with John Moore's corps, yet afterwards advanced alone), the General in chief (first in command) Sir Hew Dalrymple (coming from Gibraltar), and finally the corps of General John Moore (third in command), coming as I said from England (his corps had previously landed in Lavos and re-embarked after received new orders to land at Porto Novo). Wellesley's corps, who had marched from Lavos (with the object of reaching the french army in Lisbon), was near Vimeiro (at east of Porto Novo), accompanied by 2.600 portuguese infantry and cavalry, after protecting the landing of the General Spencer's corps, and waiting for the landing of Sir Harry Burrard, when the french army, in the morning of the sunday 21st August 1808, attacked his army, which had terminate with the complete victory of the combined army (british and portuguese).
