U.S. Highway 50, along with I-35, passes through a place known as "BETO junction," which is where it meets U.S. 75 north of Burlington. The letters in the acronym stand for Burlington, Emporia, Topeka and Ottawa, which are the cities to the south, west, north and east, respectively.

  • what does BETO stand for
  • BETO is named after the four major cities it is near. Burlington, Emporia, Topeka, and Ottawa
  • BETO junction is the Name of the Truck stop.. they are the ones who coined it BETO Junction. because of it's location.. BETO junction is not the "AREA" but the truckstop that has since been acquired by TA (travel centers of america) I have first hand knowledge of this as I knew the previous owners and myself grew up in the area
  • This truck stop used to have the best breakfast in KS....a plate or should say a platter of biscuits and gravy were the best. Remember my brother in law and sister were visiting in Topeka from Ohio we had went there to go visit family in Independence and from then on....well we had to make a trip to go eat there.
  • The original beto jct was the intersection of US hwy 75 and US hwy 50. On the NE corner was a gas station. When US 50 was paralleled by I-35, US 50 parts became frontage road. The old gas station was bought by TA and used the beto jct name (lore). In 1960's I passed through beto jct many times, there was a sign.
