The name 'Tinsukia' comes from a three cornered tank founded during the reign of Mattak king Sarvanandasimha of Bengmora. The old name of 'Tinsukia' was -Bengmora (a tank where a dead Beng i.e., Frog was found by the king, hence the name), Changmaipathar (Pathar i.e., a field belongs to 'Changmai' clan of the Ahoms who were mean for Kitchen work during the Tai-Ahom rule, hence the name). The place Tinsukia was a part of ancient Kunda, Kundi, Kundil, Halali, Dimalang, Saumarpith etc. This region was frequented by Lord Krisna, Parsurama, Sage Santanu, Amogha, Rukmini, Prince Rukma, Prince Chamuda, Ashoka, Kaudinya etc. Tinsukia is district today with same name a subdivision stands in Upper Assam. The important relics of Tinsukia are: Pator Thans, Kechakhaiti, Boragi Than, Gircha-Girchi Than, Bolia Baba Than, Tamreswari Than, Various Moamariya Satras, Na-Pukhuri, Chauldhowa Pukhuri, Stillwell Road, Pangchao Pass etc. The major tribal ethnic groups are: Singphos, Khamti, Khamyang, Phake, Sema, Nocte, Tangcha, Wangchu etc. The Morans, Mattaks, Chutiyas, Ahoms had their kingdom here.

Hello Folks, I am Papu (Siddhartha J Satyapal), & I have been living in Tinsukia since 1973. Its a Great Place. Once upon a time Tinsukia was Ruled by The Mattack Kings and so it has a very rich Ancient Royal Heritage. There are Beautiful Natural Forests & Lakes with a variety of Flora & Fauna in the Tinsukia District. There are also vast Tea Gardens planted both by the British before Independence & by Indians after Independence. The District is very Rich in Mineral Resources Like Oil & Coal and is one of the Topmost Business Districts in India. I feel I am very fortunate to live in a place like Tinsukia with my Mother & Daughter & my other Family members & my Dear Friends & Neighbours & Colleagues. I really Love My Dearly Beloved Tinsukia. ZINDABAD TINSUKIA......
