Latin Way is an apartment-style dorm at Tufts University. It is located at the bottom of the hill, near Davis Square and Dewick dining hall. It offers apartment style living, in apartments of either 4 or 10. While four-person apartments must be picked as a group, ten-person apartments can either be picked as a group or students can pick just one room. It is a co-ed dorm. It houses mostly juniors and seniors, with a few sophomores. It is an unstaffed residence, and is not monitored by any RA's, though TUPD keeps a fairly close eye on the goings on at Latin Way. At its maximum capacity, Latin Way can house 224 students.
As mentioned, Latin Way offers two styles of living, the four-person and the ten-person apartment. The four-person apartment offers four singles, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a living room. The ten-person apartments vary in configuration. While all have 2 single bathrooms, a kitchen, and a living room, some offer two doubles and 6 singles and the others offer three doubles and four singles. All of the ones with three doubles are located in the E tower. Living rooms in the apartments come furnished with a couch, a loveseat, a chair, a coffee table, and a dining table with chairs. There are no communal lounges in Latin Way. There are three laundry rooms placed throughout the building- one between the E and F towers, one between the D and C towers, and one between the B and A towers.
To secure living in Latin Way requires fairly high numbers. Rooms in the ten-person suites usually are all taken by juniors and seniors, who should have no problem getting a room. A few rooms are left over for sophomores. Sophomores with numbers around 2700 or higher should be able to get rooms. It also bares mentioning that guys rooms go more quickly than girls rooms, and are thus harder for sophomores or juniors with bad numbers to get. As for the four-person apartments, students must apply in a group of four and the eighteen groups with the highest averages get suites. The suite with the highest average gets to pick their suite first, then the group with the second highest average, and so on and so forth. For the 2007-2008 school year the lowest group to get a four-person apartment had an average of 7943.5. The group with the highest average had an average of 8465.5. Due to the competitiveness for these suites, they are virtually all reserved for seniors.
Latin Way has a reputation on campus as being on of the most fun dorms to live in. Since there are no RA's and the apartments are all private, students have pretty much free reign to do as they please. This results in suite parties occurring all of the time. Students have very little to fear as far as getting in trouble, though the police do keep their eye on the building. Also, the great location, near Davis, Dewick, and the campus center, is another big reason why Latin Way is considered on of the best places to live on campus.
