Houston Hall is one of the dorms at Tufts University. It is a co-ed, all freshmen dorm. Similar to Miller, it is single sex by cluster, with a bathroom located at the center of each cluster. There are no lounges located on the halls, though there is a central lounge on the ground floor. Houston is located on the residential quad, uphill, near the academic quad and Carmichael dining hall. At maximum capacity, Houston Hall houses 252 students. Houston is a staffed residence hall, with 8 RA's and 1 RD. The RA's are located in singles throughout the building.
All of the rooms, except for the RAs' rooms, are doubles. The doubles are approximately 13'X15' on average. Each room has built in dressers, cabinets, and closets, along with a counter and small mirror. Other furniture-bed, desk- are movable. All of the rooms have linoleum floors with painted cinderblock walls. Students who live on the ground floor have smaller halls due to the laundry room, the lounge, and other various rooms. As such, living on the ground floor is generally regarded as unfavorable, as it is less social. Otherwise, all rooms are more or less equal. On the ground floor is Houston's main lounge with a TV, an air hockey table, and a ping pong table, along with a laundry room, which is a little small for the number of students in the building. In the basement is a small kitchen and a bike storage room.
Houston is generally regarded as a good place to live as a freshman. It is really well located and relatively nice. It is seen as one of the more social dorms that freshmen can be placed into, along with Tilton. Due to the small halls, students tend to form a tight bond with one another.
