Miller Hall is a dorm at Tufts University. It is located uphill on the residential quad. It is a co-ed dorm, with guys and girls clustered around a bathroom of their sex. The dorm houses 194 students when completely full. Miller is occupied by a mix of sophomores and freshmen. There are 7 RA's and 1 RD in Miller, located throughout the building. There are four bathrooms on each floor, all of which are single sex. These bathrooms are located centrally in a cluster of either guys or girls and each have 2 showers, 3 toilettes, and a counter with a number of sinks. The halls also have 2 small lounges on the upper floors with the main lounge on the first floor. Miller is located close to both Carmichael dining hall and the academic quad.
Miller offers only doubles, of which there are 97. These doubles are 13'X15' on average, with additional closet space. Each room has built in dressers and closets along with a bureau with a mirror. Desks and beds and movable. All floors are linoleum tile and the walls are white-painted cinderblock. Rooms on the more western side of Miller on the first floor live right next to the RD. This is maybe undesirable because students must live in close proximity to the RD and one of the bathrooms is significantly smaller than normal.
As mentioned, Miller houses freshmen along with sophomores that have mediocre lottery numbers. It is also where many people from the waitlist end up. Tufts does not list what numbers historically have been sufficient to secure a room in Miller. It is one of the less desirable dorms for sophomores, although not nearly the worst. A lottery number average between roommates in the low 2000's in typically enough to assure a pair will have no problem getting a room in Miller. Of course, this fluctuates from year to year.
Miller is generally regarded as a pretty average place to live. It is located in a nice place, being near both the dining hall and the academic quad. The rooms are pretty nice and a decent size. Most sophomores try to seek all sophomore housing, but this is one of the better options if one cannot secure an upperclassmen-only dorm. It is not particularly social due to the scattering of RA's and the smaller rooms. That being said, the smaller halls foster good community within the dorm.
