Delivered for service with the US Air Force by Cessna in October of 1957, S/N 56-4208's career with the USAF was quite brief, as shortly after being accepted for service it was transferred to the operational control of the US Army. Initially tasked with artillery adjustment and recon duties, S/N 56-4208 went on to serve with one of eleven R.A.C. (Reconnaissance Airplane Companies) deployed to South Vietnam during the Vietnam War, returning stateside in the early 1970's.

Deactivated from US Army service shortly thereafter and returned to the US Air Force, S/N 56-4208 was selected for preservation at the Air Commando Air Park and was installed and dedicated in October 1973 wearing the colors of a Hurlburt Field-based O-1E that were utilized in training and exercises through the mid-1970's.
