One of just five preserved E-1 Tracers on public display in the United States, Bureau Number 148146 entered US Navy service in December 1960 with the "Early Elevens" of Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 11 (VAW-11) and made her first deployment aboard the USS Constellation (CVA-64). Making subsequent deployments aboard the USS Wasp (CVS-18), USS Saratoga (CVA-60) and USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CVA-42) to both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, BuNo 148146 also flew with the "Bats" of Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 12 (VAW-12) before ending her flying days with the "Bluetails" of Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 121 (VAW-121).

Removed from frontline duty as VAW-121 transitioned to the E-2 Hawkeye Airborne Early Warning Aircraft, BuNo 148146 was selected for preservation and subsequently flown into the Naval Aviation Museum’s collection in 1975.
