Bureau Number: 151647
Construction Number: 180C
S-2E Tracker Bureau Number 151647 began its US Navy service life in March 1964 with its delivery and activation with the "Hukkers" of Sea Control Squadron 28 (VS-28) at Naval Air Station Quonset Point. Assigned to the US Atlantic Fleet's specialized Anti-Submarine Warfare Aircraft Carriers, BuNo 151647 went to sea with the USS Wasp (CVS-18) USS Essex (CVS-9) during the next three years. Transferred to the "Scouts" of Sea Control Squadron 24 (VS-24) in 1967, the aircraft made a single deployment aboard the USS Randolph (CVS-15) before joining the "Tigers" of Sea Control Squadron 34 (VS-34) and departing Quonset Point for Naval Air Station Glenview in 1968.
Operating out of NAS Glenview for the next two years training new pilots, BuNo 151647 was transferred to the US Naval Reserve at Naval Air Facility Detroit where she operated with the "Blue Bandits" of Sea Control Squadron 73 (VS-73) for the next five years. During that time, squadron became the last operational S-2 Tracker squadron in the US Navy, and at the time of its deactivation BuNo 151647 and a sister aircraft were designated for donation to museums. With its sister flying to the USS Yorktown (CV-10) Museum, BuNo 151647 was flown into the National Naval Aviation Museums inventory in 1975 and remains displayed in its VS-73 markings.
