This pedimented gateway is a restoration of that erected by the Duke of Buckingham early in the 17th century. Is still in use, although it has been rebuilt many times.
Into this Georgian gateway is set the inverted horseshoe symbol used on the coat of arms of the De Ferrers family, lords of the manor for centuries.
Oakham Castle gateway is grade I. listed monument.
