The main task of the Koidula border railway station is to organise trade with Russia. For this purpose, the station has an X-ray machine that continuously scans the inside of all freight trains. Previously, this procedure was carried out in Tartu. The Koidula station has 10 pairs of tracks. A total of 25.6 km of rails were laid during construction. The railway station can handle up to 40 pairs of trains per day. In addition to the station building, the Koidula border railway station also houses the Tax and Customs Board warehouse, a depot building, a locomotive drawbridge and several auxiliary buildings for handling freight.
