Charlton Building

 office building  Add category

16-story office building completed in 2013. It was originally built as an 8-story office building designed c. 1910 by Charles C. Haight with structural elements by the Guastavino Fireproof Tile Co. In the early 2000s, it was planned to be renovated with a new tower section on top to become the 20-story Viceroy Hotel. Those plans were scrapped, however, and instead it was redesigned as an office building by Brenann Beer Gorman Architects. The new upper section is clad in silver aluminum and glass.

The original lower section has a 2-story stone base with large piers and cast-iron infill, with beige brick above. This section is capped by a projecting stone cornice, with a smaller cornice above the 7th floor. There are also stone balconies with balustrades supported by scrolled brackets at the 5th floor level - two on the front Hudson Street facade, and one each on the side facades.
