After it had been damaged during the Swedish siege in 1648 and later collapsed, the Italian builder Antonio Don rebuilt the tower in Baroque style in 1655. Further along, the adjacent town wall with its numerous watchtowers guarded the town. Steps lead from Segringer Gate into the town moat.
