Designed by the famous Canadian architect, Henry Sproatt, and built in 1932.

A former home of the Canadian Space Agency, the NRC's Sussex Laboratories contain one of the country's level 3 biohazard labs. The building is home to the NRC Steacie Institute for Molecular Sciences (NRC-SIMS), the NRC Institute for Biological Sciences (NRC-IBS), some NRC executive offices, and is the location of an NRC Industry Partnership Facility (IPF).

From Doors Open Ottawa:

"Often dubbed the “Temple of Science”, this building was designed as both a showpiece of artistry and a practical research facility. Made of Canadian limestone, sandstone and granite materials, the interior features the best of Italian-inspired Renaissance sculpturing. Includes a magnificent foyer, marble-wall auditorium, two-storey reading room, Council Chambers, and the Herzberg rooms occupied by Gerhard Herzberg, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry (1971)."
