Locus of a water dispute in the 1980s between BaKgatla authorities in Mochudi and the national capital. When the state sent engineers to begin a project to divert the water to Gaborone, the BaKgatla chief mobilised several thousand armed villagers, forcing the Botswanan government to back down.
